Overview

Pieces is an AI-enabled productivity tool designed to enhance developer workflows through intelligent code snippet management and contextual assistance. It automatically captures and forms 'memories' of a user's work, including code, documents, chats, and more, right within their workflow without interruption. This allows developers to easily recall and reuse code snippets and context at a later time. Pieces works across all apps a user is working with, capturing context as they go, and provides real-time context for favorite large language models (LLMs). The tool also features an 'invisible second brain' built into the operating system, allowing for 1-click saving, searching, and AI-tagging of code snippets. Pieces' proprietary Long-Term Memory Engine (LTM-2) provides LLMs with the context they need for accurate answers, saving users time. The tool is private by design, running on-device and locally by default, with end-to-end control over data. It is used by over 150,000 high-performing developers at top companies.

Compared a few options

Evaluated this against two competitors. Where it wins: the automation and the value for money is strong. On balance the feature set — especially the integrations — justifies the 5 stars for our use case.

Use it every day

Honestly didn't expect to like it this much. The onboarding is exactly what I needed, and it is genuinely easy to set up. I do wish pricing gets steep at scale, but I reach for it almost every day now and it just clicks.

Years in this space

I've evaluated a lot of these over the years. What stands out here is the core workflow — handled better than most — and support is responsive. The mobile experience lags is my one real gripe. Worth the time if this is your use case.
