Overview

Mermaid Viewer is a browser-based tool for creating, generating, and sharing diagrams using Mermaid syntax. It offers a live preview feature, allowing users to visualize changes as they type without needing a 'Render' button. The tool also includes AI-assisted coding through a 'Generate with GPT-4' button, which converts text descriptions into Mermaid code. Mermaid Viewer is designed for developers and others who need to create professional diagrams quickly. It supports real-time collaboration, syntax error highlighting, and auto-correction suggestions. Users can export diagrams in various formats, including SVG, PNG, and Markdown, with customizable DPI and themes. The tool offers different plans, including a free option with limited features and several paid plans with additional capabilities such as high-resolution exports, unlimited sharing, and version history. Mermaid Viewer prioritizes privacy, storing data locally in the user's browser without remote storage. It is particularly useful for creating flowcharts, timelines, wireframes, and other types of diagrams. The tool provides pre-built templates for various use cases to help users get started quickly.

Use it every day

Honestly didn't expect to like it this much. Mermaid syntax editor with live preview is exactly what I needed, and live preview while editing. I do wish limited styling compared to dedicated design tools, but I reach for it almost every day now and it just clicks.

Skeptical, then convinced

I went in skeptical — most tools in this space overpromise. It actually delivers on shareable diagram links, and browser-based, no installation needed caught me off guard. AI output may need manual cleanup is why this isn't a perfect score, still, I'd recommend giving it a real trial.

Solid for our team

We rolled this out across the team last quarter and browser-based, no installation needed. Shareable diagram links fits neatly into how we already work, and export to image formats removed a step we used to do by hand. Limited styling compared to dedicated design tools, which is the main caveat, but it has held up under daily use.
