Overview

SoniqTools is a free, browser-based suite for quick audio editing and analysis. It allows users to analyze, convert, edit, and optimize audio files directly in their browser, ensuring that files never leave the user's device. The suite includes a range of tools such as an Audio Quality Analyzer for detecting upsampling and checking spectrum and dynamic range, a Spectrogram Viewer for visualizing frequency content over time, and a Metadata Viewer for inspecting audio file details. Other features include converting between various audio formats, extracting audio from video files, and editing tools like a looper, trimmer, splitter, and merger. The suite also offers optimization tools such as a compressor and a tone generator. SoniqTools seems to cater to individuals who need to perform basic to intermediate-level audio editing and analysis tasks without requiring powerful software installations. Its browser-based nature makes it accessible and user-friendly. The tool's capabilities appear to be on par with or similar to other dedicated audio analysis and editing software, but its browser-based functionality offers convenience and ease of access.

Solid for our team

We rolled this out across the team last quarter and covers both editing and analysis tasks. Audio trimming and cutting fits neatly into how we already work, and file merging and joining removed a step we used to do by hand. but it has held up under daily use.

Years in this space

I've evaluated a lot of these over the years. What stands out here is works across modern browsers — handled better than most — and free to use. Limited to browser performance and file size is my one real gripe. Worth the time if this is your use case.

Compared a few options

Evaluated this against two competitors. Where it wins: format conversion between common audio types and covers both editing and analysis tasks. Where it lags: lacks advanced features of desktop DAWs. On balance the feature set — especially drag-and-drop file handling — justifies the 4 stars for our use case.
