Overview

Wan-Animate is a unified platform that uses AI to enable character animation and replacement in videos. It allows users to replace characters in their videos by uploading an image of the character and a reference video, and then selects from two modes: Move Mode, which animates the character, and Mix Mode, which replaces the character in the video. The platform utilizes advanced technologies such as skeleton-driven motion control, facial feature reenactment, and relighting LoRA technology to produce professional-grade results. Users can choose from multiple quality profiles to balance time and hardware constraints.

Years in this space

I've evaluated a lot of these over the years. What stands out here is scene-aware compositing — handled better than most — and accessible to non-VFX users. Output quality can vary with complex scenes is my one real gripe. Worth the time if this is your use case.

Does the job

Pretty happy overall. AI character replacement in video just works and accessible to non-VFX users. May struggle with heavy occlusion or fast motion can be annoying, but no dealbreakers — I'd recommend it to a friend without hesitating.

Solid for our team

We rolled this out across the team last quarter and preserves original motion and expressions. Suitable for short-form video content fits neatly into how we already work, and scene-aware compositing removed a step we used to do by hand. Output quality can vary with complex scenes, which is the main caveat, but it has held up under daily use.

Use it every day

Honestly didn't expect to like it this much. Suitable for short-form video content is exactly what I needed, and accessible to non-VFX users. but I reach for it almost every day now and it just clicks.
