Overview

BabyAGI is an experimental framework for building self-building autonomous agents. It was created as an evolution of the original BabyAGI from March 2023, which introduced task planning for autonomous agents. The framework is built around a new function framework called 'functionz' that stores, manages, and executes functions from a database. It features a graph-based structure for tracking imports, dependent functions, and authentication secrets, along with automatic loading and comprehensive logging capabilities. The framework also includes a dashboard for managing functions, running updates, and viewing logs. It's designed to be simple and spark discussion among developers, not for production use. The core idea is to build the simplest thing that can build itself, making it an interesting approach for developing autonomous agents.

Years in this space

I've evaluated a lot of these over the years. What stands out here is the integrations — handled better than most — and the value for money is strong. A few rough edges remain is my one real gripe. Worth the time if this is your use case.

Compared a few options

Evaluated this against two competitors. Where it wins: the dashboard and it is genuinely easy to set up. On balance the feature set — especially the dashboard — justifies the 5 stars for our use case.

Skeptical, then convinced

I went in skeptical — most tools in this space overpromise. It actually delivers on the onboarding, and it is genuinely easy to set up caught me off guard. still, I'd recommend giving it a real trial.

Does the job

Pretty happy overall. The API just works and it is genuinely easy to set up. Pricing gets steep at scale can be annoying, but no dealbreakers — I'd recommend it to a friend without hesitating.
